VCSO: Beware of Porch Pirates This Holiday Season

Tis the season for online shopping, but that means porch pirates are lurking to steal your holiday deliveries.
The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office is warning you to keep your packages safe.

VCSO says, these thieves have already struck the county and will continue to ramp up as the holiday season draws closer.
Porch pirates snatch packages from your front doorstep and have been known to follow UPS and FedEx trucks, grabbing packages from your doorstep as soon as they’re delivered.

If you believe any of your packages have been stolen, VCSO suggests calling 911 and reporting the theft immediately.

To defend yourself from porch pirates, VCSO suggests bringing your packages in as soon as possible, signing up for delivery text alerts, asking a neighbor to bring the packages inside for you if you’re not home, and considering installing a video doorbell.

According to the National Retail Federation, almost half of all shopping will be online this holiday season.
