STD rates in the United States reached new heights in 2018, the Centers for Disease Control reported.
According to a 2018 STD Surveillance Report, nearly 2.5 million combined cases of syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia were reported to the CDC for the year. More than 1.75 million cases of chlamydia were reported last year, the most ever reported to CDC, according to the report.
Factors driving the increased number of STD cases include a surge in people getting tested, and cases being diagnosed and reported.
Health officials say there’s also a decline in people using condoms.
CDC researchers also found the rates of STD cases reported were highest among adolescents and youth adults.
