Federal prosecutors have filed computer hacking and fraud charges against two Russian nationals accused of carrying out a major cybercrime operation.
According to the 10-count indictment, Maksim Yakubets, the alleged ringleader, and Igor Turashev operate a group known as Evil Corp.
They install malware on computer systems in order to steal money and property from companies, school districts and nonprofit groups, including some in Illinois and Kentucky.
Over the last decade, authorities say millions of dollars were stolen from individuals and companies around the world.
Federal agents are offering up to $5 million for information that helps bring the ringleader to justice.
