On Capitol Hill, Wednesday President Donald Trump tried to clarify his stance on gun control legislation.
He pushed back when asked if he was parroting NRA talking points when he discussed the slippery slope of gun regulations. President Trump has come under fire from Democrats and activists for failing to put forward a concrete plan to curb gun violence.
Gun control activists David Hogg helped create March for Our Lives after surviving last year’s school shooting in Parkland, Florida. The group put forward a new plan asking president trump to declare a national emergency.
“I don’t want it just to be our generation, the young people, that fix it, I want it to be currently every generation that’s alive,” says Hogg.
March for Our Lives also wants reinstatement of the assault weapons ban and a national gun registry.
Congress is expected to hold hearings on gun violence next month when it comes back from its summer recess.
