A New Jersey man is the eighth American to die while on vacation in the Dominican Republic.
The family of 55-year-old Joseph Allen says he travels to the DR frequently and was in good health. According to the family, Allen was complaining about being hot at a pool, so he went to take a shower and lie down for the night but was found dead the next day.
At least seven other Americans have died in the DR in the last 12 months. Local autopsies concluded most died of respiratory problems or a heart attack.
The family of Allen is trying to get his body home and are currently waiting for FBI toxicology reports for the three deaths that occurred in May.
His cause of death has yet to be determined.
According to health officials, heart attacks are the most common cause of death for Americans on vacation.
