The House approved passed a bill Thursday to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour.
The Democratic House passed the bill in a 231-199 vote. Six democrats opposed it while three Republicans supported it.
An increase in the minimum wage to give low-wage workers a raise has been long pushed by Democrats.
The measure will gradually hike to $15 by 2025.
The passage of the measure will also phase out lower minimum wage paid to tipped workers.
