A local Little League program is receiving a national award at the little league world series in August.
Highland Challenger League Baseball has been named league of the year. League president Matt Pokorney has been named volunteer of the year. Matt and his family will be honored at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. He says help from local high school and college teams, as well as volunteers have made the league a success.
“The outpouring help that we get from our community has made this what it is,” Challenger League President Matt Pokorney says. “We did a little bit of hard work, we asked for some money, but we couldn’t do it without our volunteers and our folks here at highland baseball.” ”
League organizers say 77 kids played in this year’s league. The national average is 30.
