Former Miss America and Fox News host, Gretchen Carlson announced, Wednesday that she would be stepping down as Chair of the Miss America Board.
Carlson took over following a scandal that ousted longtime Chair Sam Haskell and other board members in January of 2018.
Carlson’s time at the helm has been controversial. Carlson spearheaded updated changes to Miss America under the branding Miss America 2.0.
Those changes included eliminating the iconic swimsuit competition and firing several of the state boards across the country.
In a statement, Carlson said, “I dedicated myself to helping the organization build on its history while working to secure its future and am extremely proud of the work we have collectively done.”
Carlson will remain on in an advisory position to the board.
Former South Dakota Secretary of State Shantel Krebs will take over as Chair and attorney Brenda Keith will fill the role of Vice Chair.
