Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin has been arrested four days after the murder of George Floyd which sparked protest and rioting in Minneapolis.
Officials of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety announced Friday that Chauvin was taken into custody by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and faces charges of murder and manslaughter.
Chauvin was filmed on camera pressing his knee on Floyd’s neck who laid on the ground handcuffed and unarmed. Floyd could be heard on video begging for air before finally going limp and dying.
Chauvin had been with the Minneapolis Police Department for 19 years.
