Indiana schools including the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation need to get in compliance with State laws regarding sexual education policies so they are updating their policy.
Under the new rules, parents would have the option to opt-in or opt their child out of learning about sexual education in EVSC schools.
“Parents will be notified for that type of instruction before hand. They need to opt their students in, and they certainly have the option to opt their students out if they do not wish them to participate,” says EVSC chief of communications Jason Woebkenberg.
Parents would also have the option of receiving all the information and materials their child is learning in sexual education classes.
EVSC officials will vote on changing the sexual education policy at the next school board meeting February 25th at 5:30 PM.
