CEO Ed Stack said in a recent interview that his company has turned $5 million worth of assault weapons into scrap metal.
The move comes after Dick’s made the decision to stop selling the rifles after the mass shooting in Parkland, Florida that resulted in the deaths of 17 people.
The shooter purchased the shotgun used in the massacre from a Dick’s location prompting Stack to make the decision to turn the rifles into scrap metal.
After the shooting, the company raised the age to purchase firearms from 18 to 21.
Stack details his thought process behind his stance on guns in a book coming out Tuesday, “It’s How We Play The Game: Build a Business. Take a Stand. Make a Difference.”
