Community Mourns After Virginia Beach Shooting

While investigators in Virginia Beach search for a motive in Friday’s deadly shooting, the community is coming together to grieve and remember the 12 lives lost.

Throughout the day, people have been gathering at a growing memorial in front of the municipal building where the massacre took place.

Twelve crosses have been added to the memorial, one for each victim. One survivor says, colleague and friend Keith Cox may have saved seven lives before he was killed when he directed the group to hide inside an office.

“…And we ran in there and I turned and I said, ‘come in,’ and he said, ‘I’m going to go check on other people. Barricade yourself in,’” said shooting survivor Chrisi Dewar.

Investigators are trying to determine the motive for the shooting. Hours before it happened, the suspect, Dewayne Craddock, emailed a resignation note to a manager.

He died after a shootout with police.
