At a DNC Fundraising gala Thursday, democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden switched positions on the Hyde Amendment saying he can no longer support it.
The decade old law blocks federal funding for abortion, except in cases of rape, incest or to save a woman’s life.
The Hyde Amendment is often added to federal funding bills including some that democratic candidates have voted for, but many democratic presidential candidates are now calling for the measure to be repealed.
So far this year, nine states have passed laws severely limiting abortion rights. Biden still holds a comfortable lead in the early polling among the democratic field.
