According to a news release from the Mount Vernon Police Department, at approximately 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, officers with the Mount Vernon Police Department and deputies with the Posey County Sheriff’s Office responded to an attempted burglary in the area of Southwind Avenue in Mount Vernon.
The caller reported that two men had broken into his residence and that one of them had a firearm. At some point, the homeowner discharged his own weapon, hitting and injuring one of the attempted burglars. This person was transported to an area hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.
The other man fled on foot. He is described as wearing a heavy hooded jacket and blue jeans.
Investigators believe that the burglars and the homeowner knew each other prior to this incident and that it isn’t a random act.
