A death investigation is underway after an American teacher was killed in the Dominican Republic, CBS News reported Thursday.
Police say they found 63-year-old Patricia Anton strangled in her apartment in Puerto Plata with her hands and feet bound.
Investigators believe Anton’s death may have been apart of a burglary. Multiple items were missing from her apartment including a cellphone, laptop, television, sheets and a pair of sports shoes, CBS News said.
Anton was from Michigan and had 20 years of teaching experience. She lived in the Dominican Republic for the past five years, where she worked as a consultant at an elementary school.
Anton is one of 11 Americans who have died this year in the Dominican Republic.
