Actor and activist Danny Glover calls on Congress to recognize what he calls crimes against humanity.
Glover testified at a House Committee to support HR 40, a bill that establishes a commission to study and develop reparation proposals for the descendants of slaves in the United States.
Glover is among several witnesses including New Jersey Senator and Democratic Presidential candidate Cory Booker who made their case. In closing remarks, Glover quoted Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Glover says, “Despite much progress over the centuries, this hearing is yet another important step in the long and heroic struggle of African-Americans to secure reparations for the damages inflicted by enslavement and post-emancipation and racial exclusionary policies.”
This is the first congressional hearing on slave reparations in more than a decade and it comes on June 19th also known as “Juneteenth” which marks the end of slavery in the U.S.
