Orthodox Church Announces Move To New Building

Evansville’s only orthodox church may be on the move soon.

Saint Ananias Orthodox Church voted unanimously in November to purchase the church of god of prophecy on Bellemeade Avenue. Father Daniel Hackney says they have a contract and are two weeks away from purchase.

The church’s current location is at Washington campus off Washington Avenue. The church has approximately 120 members and is growing. Hackney says the new building will help increase visibility in the community.

“When you’re able to purchase a church building, I think we’ll be more visible in the community,” Hackney says. “People see you as taking that next step of faith, and it’s a little more permanent I think. It has a permanent feel to it whenever you’re able to purchase your own church building.”

He adds the church is looking to update the property on Bellemeade Avenue. Their goal is to raise $75,000 in February.
