New York City went dark Saturday leaving 42,000 people without power.
Crowds of people flooded into the streets including Time Square where only a few video screens provided light.
The Con Edison Power Company says a manhole fire in Midtown Manhattan impacted a transmission line and knocked out power just before 7 pm.
The outage affected the Lincoln Center, Broadway Theatres, and area hospitals.
Con Edison says they hope to have power restored by midnight.
