42,000 People Without Power in NYC

New York City went dark Saturday leaving 42,000 people without power.

Crowds of people flooded into the streets including Time Square where only a few video screens provided light.

The Con Edison Power Company says a manhole fire in Midtown Manhattan impacted a transmission line and knocked out power just before 7 pm.

The outage affected the Lincoln Center, Broadway Theatres, and area hospitals.

Con Edison says they hope to have power restored by midnight.
