Mail order subscription services promise the convenience of gifts, food, or fashion delivered right to your door.
When the first food subscription service appeared, it seemed like a dozen others popped up right after!
To find out if they can deliver on their promise, and to give you a few tips about what to look for, we’re talking to someone who has tried two different brands, with two different experiences, and you might even recognize her.
You’ve seen the commercials.
Subscription food services promise fresh, easy to make dinners right to your door.
Sounds too good to be true, right?
When you look at the reviews for sites like Plated, Blue Apron, or Hello Fresh, you’ll hear good reviews, and stories like this.
So I decided to try out a healthy food, but it’s pre-packaged, it’s delivered to your door, and you just have to microwave the food.
And I’m like, ‘oh that’s perfect with our busy lifestyles’. I got the food, it wasn’t labeled, I didn’t know what I was eating, I didn’t know how many calories was in it. The food was okay, and when I emailed the people like, ‘Hey, what’s in this food?’, They said, ‘Well, you have to go to our website, you can look at it that way,’ so I felt like I actually gained weight because I was overeating; and here it was supposed to be healthy, because it wasn’t labeled.
They also kept messing up my deliveries, so I was like, ‘oh my gosh’.
Then there are the local food services that don’t have to mail your food from halfway across the country.
I actually did a local one through Bob’s Gym, and they? Phenomenal. They have meal plans, the food is amazing, you know how many calories you’re getting, I did a good job on Bob’s Gym
. And their prices are pretty much the same too as you are spending on groceries. The cool thing about those is I like them because you can pop them in the microwave, your meal’s there. And their meals were really good, and like I said, they’re labeled perfectly like they should be, they told you how many calories, and it really helps you to watch your weight when you realize how many calories you’re intaking.
It’s anywhere from 300 to 500 calories per meal, and then I can actually, per person you figure out how many calories you need and you just track it that way.
And it’s got everything already figured out for you.
So I had two different meal prep services…one, the one from online not the best, and the local one here, phenomenal.
When choosing a subscription food service, check the reviews, see if you can cancel or hold at any time, if the food freezable just in case you are away or too busy to cook, and be sure that the ten dollars a serving, which is the average, is really worth it for the convenience.
