With movies like “Girls Trip” and “Bridesmaids”, the ladies and comedy are trending.
And the latest production here in Evansville will have you listening in on the secret world of women.
“5 Women Wearing the Same Dress” opens this weekend, and we’ve got your sneak peek.
What do you do when you have a wedding party to fill out, and no friends?
You dig deep and ask your sister, cousin, soon to be sister in law, and high school friends to step in as bridesmaids…or, be the five women wearing the same dress.
This hilarious comedy by Alan Ball, think “Six Feet Under” and “True Blood”, is a story of female bonding, drinking, dishing, and sex that also quietly explores the social glass ceiling for women of a certain age.
There’s Frances, the shy, sweet, super Christian.
Mindy, sister of the groom and a very outspoken lesbian.
The bride’s side-kick in high school, the cynical Georgeanne, who slept with the bride’s old boyfriend.
The bride’s rebellious sister Meredith.
And Trisha, the jaded beauty with a bad reputation.
These ladies may all be dressed the same, but they couldn’t be more different from each other.
Watch them hide out in a tiny bedroom while they talk, laugh, argue, cry, console one another, and slowly become friends in this wickedly funny, irreverent, and touching celebration of the women’s spirit.
“Five Women Wearing the Same Dress” runs through Sunday.
Catch it at Pat Coslett’s Simplicity Furniture at 7:30 pm Friday and Saturday, 6 pm on Sunday.
Tickets are just ten dollars, there will be pizza for purchase and a cash bar.
