Kentucky House Speaker Jeff Hoover says he changed his mind about resigning after House members and others urged him to reconsider.
Speaker Pro Tempore David Osborne gaveled the house into session Tuesday afternoon as Hoover watched quietly from his seat. Hoover announced in November he was stepping aside as speaker after admitting he settled a sexual harassment claim.
However, late Tuesday he released a statement saying he is reconsidering. He is not re-assuming the speaker’s role right away.
Hoover has asked Osborne to run the House until further notice.
“He has only indicated to me what he put in the letter today in communication to the House and at this point in time I will do my job as the speaker pro tem that I was elected to do last January,” says Osborne.
Hoover may be waiting for the results from an ethics commission investigation into the harassment scandal which involves three other House members.
The House reconvenes Wednesday afternoon after the first of two days of mandatory anti-sexual harassment training.
