Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry says no charges will be filed against two white Baton Rouge police officers involved in the deadly shooting of Alton Sterling in July 2016.
The Sterling family immediately condemned the decision, which came almost a year after the feds also said they wouldn’t file charges. Family members say the two officers are “killers” who deserved to go to jail for shooting Sterling.
Landry says officers Blane Salamoni and Howie Lake were justified in shooting Sterling who was being held down after being tased twice.
Landry says, “Officers Lake and Salamoni attempted to make a lawful arrest of Sterling. Sterling continued to resist the officer’s efforts to arrest him.”
Mother of Sterling’s eldest son Quinyetta McMillon says, “We have nothing else in us to cry about because guess what? We knew what it was just like y’all knew what it was gonna be.”
The Sterling family says they plan to file a civil suit in this case.
