The job title is fit for a superhero: Planetary Protection Officer, but the job responsibilities are a little less exciting than something Superman might do.
The job mostly boils down to protecting worlds that humans visit from contamination. Experts say that in our prior space missions we have been a little reckless in how we spread bacteria and other microorganisms to otherwise pristine landscapes in space.
While that part of the job may be the most time consuming, it won’t be the most fun. That fun part of the job is protecting Earth from potential alien contamination. Should E.T make his way back to Earth the planetary protection officer would make sure none of his bacteria would infect the rest of the planet.
The job is open to the public and plenty of people will surely apply after seeing what the job pays. The job posting lists a salary of $124,406 to $187,000 per year.
