In this week’s edition of What The Community Has To Say, John Blair talks about a proposed coal project for Spencer County and the impact it will have on the economy and environment. This segment aired on Friday, February 16th.
Pretty soon, if you pay attention to the news, you will be hearing about another stupid coal project proposed for Spencer County. This time, it is Coal To Diesel fuel that claims to hire thousands and be the economic salvation of that already polluted county.
Sponsor’s claims are that it will be near pollution free but that is a lie since their application for a construction permit says they will be a MAJOR polluter for several pollutants. Already, Spencer County is one of the most polluted Counties in the nation, especially for health impacting toxic poison.
Of course we will likely see politicians and economic development professionals lockstep with the sponsors hoping their empty promises will come true.
This is a project that was also a done deal in Vermillion County for four years until the sponsors lost their support from County officials who backed out of their options for land purchase for some reason.
Well, I am here to say that this project is nothing more than an attempt by greedy people to get their hands on some federal money, hoping that taxpayers will assume the risk while they can reap private profits for a project that makes no sense from an economic standpoint. Valley Watch and others are poised to fight this on economic and environmental grounds. Like stupid projects, including Indiana Gasification earlier this decade, we intend to win.
Please join us in this endeavor to protect your health and environment.
