In this edition’s of What The Community Has To Say, Jim Bratten talks about the nation’s debt and how it keeps growing. This segment aired on Monday, February 19th.
Hello, I am Jim Bratten, director of Hoosier Patriots and co-founder of Vanderburgh County Tea Party Patriots.
As of Friday, February 9 at 4:00 p.m., U.S. debt stood at $20.6 TRILLION dollars. That debt breaks down to $63,051 for every man, woman and child in America. This is the cost of eight years of progressive policies; doubling of the national debt.
The new budget bill passed by Congress early in the morning of February 9 nearly doubled last year’s deficit to $1.2 trillion.
Passed with it was another Continuing Resolution that will fund certain government programs at specific levels through March 23, the fifth CR this fiscal year.
Senator Mike Lee (R-UT), Chairman of the Senate Steering Committee, was incensed at what happened in the dead of night, saying…
“No matter how Congress divvies up the budget in the months ahead… the end result will blow the top off the nation’s already rising debt.
“According to the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, the [13%] spending increase in… the budget deal will drive next year’s budget deficit to a level not seen since the beginning of President Obama’s failed stimulus…”
No critical reforms in spending were even considered. This was emergency cowardice labeled as a “budget victory.” Fiscal conservatives have been completely abandoned by this Republican Congress.
The last constitutionally-correct budget was passed in 2008. Congress needs to get back to constitutional order and stop playing eleventh-hour spending games.
My name is Jim Bratten, and that’s what I have to say.
