The Indiana Department of Transportation plans on opening two J-Turn intersections on U.S. 231 near Dale starting Thursday, June 30th.
Contractors are expected to open the J-Turn intersections at U.S. 231 and State Road 62/68. This phase of construction closed the intersection medians to install curbs and signing to direct drivers when making left turns from U.S. 231.
Some contractors will still be on site to finish smaller components of the project, such as grass seeding and other items.
INDOT has done extensive studies that show J-Turns will improve safety at the intersections of U.S. 231 and S.R. 62/68. National statistics show more than 50% declines in crash rates at intersections where J-Turns are installed.
The new turns will prevent traffic on S.R. 62/68 from crossing or making left turns onto U.S. 231. Left turns will be allowed from U.S. 231 on to S.R. 62 and S.R. 68.
