In this week’s edition of What The Community Has To Say, Gary May talks about addressing gun control issues and demanding action rather than words. This segment aired on Thursday, February 22nd.
Well, it’s happened again…more students have been slaughtered at their desks in schools in America! These occurrences are coming perilously close to exhausting the store of “Thoughts and Prayers” cynically offered by NRA complicit chattel of public office holders.
While politicians blithely insist that there’s no need to address gun control issues—it’s too soon, we can’t politicize the issue, we need to get all the facts–Vociferous students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School loudly DEMAND action. Their thoughtful, passionate, articulate and moving demands are getting unprecedented exposure in the media. They unabashedly call BS!! They directly confront President Trump, his toothy smile and triumphant thumbs up notwithstanding. They call out politicians who are in the pockets of the NRA.
The students are not willing to settle for mere words. They have organized “lie ins” in front of the White House, they are planning school walkouts, they plan a march on Washington to confront recalcitrant politicians —their major issue gun control — it should not be as easy to buy a combat assault weapon as a loaf of bread!
We at Veterans For Peace know these weapons of war very well. Our hands held them in combat decades ago. We used them to inflict death and terror on those whom our leaders identified as “enemies”. We unconditionally support the students who insist on sensible gun control. Our hope is that from the ashes of these school shootings, the Phoenix will rise and guide and propel these students to success in their campaign.
I’m Gary May and that’s what I have to say.
