With the holiday shopping season here, online shoppers are at risk of identity theft. Experts warn that small businesses are at risk too.
The Indiana Department of Revenue says cyber criminals are getting smarter and targeting those businesses.
The department says thieves have better knowledge of the tax code and industry filing practices which gives them a better chance of stealing information.
Officials say they’ve seen a big spike in the number of fraudulent tax forms. Those also apply to estate and trust forms.
They say you should look for signs of attempted fraud like unexpected tax transcript receipts, and not receiving expected and routine correspondence from the IRS.
