Dictionary.com is out with its word of the year. This year’s winner is ‘complicit’. Complicit means “choosing to be involved in an illegal or questionable act, especially with others or having complicity.”
The word started to gain traction in April when Ivanka Trump told an interviewer “I don’t know what it means to be complicit.”
It also came up in a parody of Ivanka Trump on Saturday Night Live.
Interest in the word also spiked last month when Senator Jeff Flake announced his retirement and said, “I will not be complicit.”
